The area is predominately African American, affluent, single-family homes with a few corner businesses. The area is also known for hosting over 45 churches of various denominations. 16th Street Heights and its surrounding neighborhoods are bordered by Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Aspen St. to the North, Spring Rd. to the South, Georgia Ave. to the East, and Rock Creek Park to the West. Brightwood and Brightwood Park are to the North of 16th Street Heights and largely residential. The area is undergoing revitalization with new apartments and condo buildings currently being planned. Crestwood is to the West of 16th Street Heights and surrounded on three sides by Rock Creek Park. The residential neighborhood is comprised of very affluent African American families. The current Mayor of DC, Adrian Fenty, is a resident of the neighborhood. Return to topHousingIncluding the nearby neighborhoods of Brightwood and Crestwood, 16th Street Heights neighborhood is a popular residential area for students attending Howard University, Catholic University, and Trinity Washington University. Many apartment complexes can be found on 14th Street, 16th Street, and Georgia Avenue. While some of the apartments are geared more towards luxury apartment homes, especially in the Crestwood area, several buildings cater to the young professionals, especially those closer to the universities and medical centers. Renters can expect a wide range of prices. Studios can start at $800/month while a one bedroom in a new apartment building can start for $1500/month.
