Overview

Capitol Hill is one of the largest residential neighborhoods in DC. It spans two quadrants surrounding the Northeast and Southeast side of the U.S. Capitol Building. Covering just two square miles, it is also one of the most densely populated neighborhoods. Capitol Hill is bordered by H St NE to the North, Southeast - Southwest Freeway and Navy Yard to the South, Anacostia River to the East, and the National Mall to the West.

Capitol Hill has a long history as one of the first neighborhoods in the city as the Capitol Building and Navy Yard were under construction in the late 1700's. Today it is residential area undergoing gentrification with new condos and remodeling of the area's many Victorian-era rowhouses.

Housing

Most of the housing in Capitol Hill is converted rowhouses and new apartment complexes near Navy Yard. The area is a favorite for young professionals, students, and summer interns looking for rooming around The Hill. Renters can expect to find one bedroom apartments starting at $1100/month in the many rowhouses. Newer apartment buildings typically offer one bedroom units for around $1500/month.

And don't be afraid to contact them! Most renters need to give 30-60 days moving notice. Capitol Hill is connected by a number of metro stations including Capitol South and Eastern Market Metro Stations on the Blue and Orange Lines and is a short walk from Union Station on the Red Line.
