Overview

The NW DC neighborhoods of Colonial Village/Shepherd Park/Takoma are largely residential, middle class, single-family homes. Houses in Colonial Village sit on large grassy lots on winding streets. And the houses of Takoma are often over 100 years old. Shepherd Park is a well-integrated neighborhood with large African American and Jewish populations. It was one of the few neighborhoods to withstand white flight during the 1960's and 1970's.

Colonial Village/Shepherd Park/Takoma's borders are Eastern Ave. to the Northeast, Rock Creek Park to the North and West, and Rock Creek Park, Aspen Street, and Walter Reed Hospital to the South. These border neighborhoods are very close in proximity with Silver Spring and Tokama, MD.
