Overview

American University Park (AU Park) and the smaller adjacent enclaves of Spring Valley, Kent, and Wesley Heights are home to American University and several affluent residential areas of Washington D.C. The University itself is mainly located in the smaller neighborhood of Spring Valley, although the entire area is mainly referred to as AU Park. Former presidents Nixon, Johnson, J.F. Kennedy, and George Bush Sr. had homes here at one time. The neighborhood is currently home to many influential politicians, media figures, and embassies.

AU Park is bordered by Wisconsin Ave. to the North, MacArthur Blvd. to the South, Archibald Glover Park and the neighborhood of Cleveland Park to the East, and the District's border of Western Ave. to the West.

Students attending school at American University, Georgetown University, or The George Washington University's Mt. Vernon Campus as well as professionals working in one of the many embassies and consulate offices in the surrounding neighborhoods often consider residing in AU Park and its surrounding residential enclaves.

Housing

Whether a student attending American University, Georgetown University or The George Washington University, a professional looking for a new apartment, or an executive working for one of the many businesses, embassies, non-profits, or NGOs located in AU Park, there are many housing options and some general expectation of which you should be aware.

AU Park is an affluent residential area of DC. Many of its neighborhoods consist of single family homes. Potential renters should expect limited apartment complexes in the immediate residential neighborhoods. Most apartments are found along Massachusetts Ave., which cuts through the area and divides AU Park and the American University campus, and in the nearby neighborhoods of Cleveland Park and Woodley Park.

Renters can expect starting rates of $1300-$1500 for studios/efficiencies, depending on amenities and the age of the building. Housing very close to campus consists primarily of rented rooms in residential houses. Renters can expect an even higher premium on these units.

Below are several featured buildings in this neighborhood for consideration. Be sure to check with each apartments' property management company for more information, availability, and current prices. And don’t be afraid to contact them! Most renters need to give 30-60 days moving notice. If you know you’re moving in the next few months, have them keep track of apartments coming available for you.
